The City of Kumba in the Southwest Region recently hosted the maiden edition of ‘Police Night’ dedicated to recognising outstanding police officers.
Officers were recognised in five different categories: integrity, dynamism, punctuality and cleanliness, among others.
Three officersin each category got the awards.
The Commissioner of Kumba Central Police Station, Wilson Elung, said the initiative was to recognize hardworking police officers.
Elung said the event was to highlight the achievements recorded by the police in Kumbain 2015.
The Senior Superintendant of Police saidbecause the police force laboured throughout the previous year in preserving peace and property, they deserve a pat on the back.
While announcing that Kumba has known peace in recent times, the police boss said the credit goes to every police officer in Kumba and the police hierarchy for action taken in that direction.
Elung cited Christmas and New Year celebrationswhenpolice spent sleepless nights guarding the city while the population enjoyed the festive period.
He recalled that before, the end-of-year festivities, Kumba got involved in numerous accidents and theft, but in 2015, the stories were different.
Elung presented the entire police corps to the population to avoid incidents of impersonation.
He said it is the right of the population to know the persons they are working with.
The Second Assistant Prefect for Meme, Nelson Yongkhuma Gamsi, said such initiatives improve the image of the police corps.
He further said that celebrating their achievements and rewarding meritorious staff restores the pride and dignity of the police force.
Yongkhuma appreciated the police for efficiency in intelligence sharing and the prompt handling of files related to the judiciary.
