Kumba produces 5000 applicants for 500 HTTTC places

Barely a few days after the official launching of the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC, Kumba, by the Minister of Higher Education, applicants are already swelling the state Treasury with money received from the slae of stamps and other charges.

The various offices charged with production and certification of documents is jam-packed with potential students who are all scrambling to get their files ready.

Most of the areas where documents are produced are having more than 200 would be students, queuing up to either collect or pay for their documents.

From estimates, it was very clear that the application files to be deposited only in Kuma before July 31 will be over 5000, with those of other areas not included for just 500 chances to be admitted.

A staff at the Meme Treasury Department attested that more than 700 stamps of FCFA 1500 are sold on a daily basis since the entrance was launched.

But however, some applicants were worried about the high cost of compiling the documents.

Each applicant will spend close to 40.000 FCFA to obtain a complete file. This amount could be broken down as follows: FCFA 4100 and above for certificate of non conviction, FCFA 2000 and above for medical certificate, passport size photographs plus envelopes and stamps, about six fiscal stamps to certify documents and FCFA 20.000 for application form.

If the cost of transportation has to be included this will go up to FCFA 40.000 per applicant.

Apart from this global cost, most students will have to spend much to travel to their various institutions to either collect their certificates, transcripts or attestations, which is usually a very stressful exercise.
