A workshop to reinforce the teaching of French and English in schools opened in Yaounde on March 11, 2014.
The teaching and learning of French and English in schools is faced with diverse problems. This is due to the fact that each language has its own rules which must be respected, making it difficult for the teaching and learning process.
It is in this light that a two-day workshop to train trainers on the teaching of English to Francophones and French to Anglophones opened in Yaounde on Tuesday March 11, 2014. Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim, said government gives an important place to bilingualism. She said the workshop was also part of activities of the ministry to improve basic education in Cameroon.
She called on participants to take the training seriously and expressed hope that the outcome will bring a new era for bilingualism in Cameroon. Youssouf Hadidja Alim used the opportunity to thank the French Embassy for its contribution in improving the education system in Cameroon, notably in the teaching of the French language.
The objective of the workshop was to improve the teaching and learning of second foreign languages for effective bilingualism in basic education.
