Fishing nets, canoe and other gadgets will be handed by the Regional Delegation of the Chamber of Agriculture.
Given the poor organisation of fishermen in the Littoral Region that negatively affects the quantity of catch, Littoral’s Regional Delegate of the Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock and Forest of Cameroon (CAFEF), Julbert Konango, said fishermen will soon receive work tools including fishing nets and canoe among in order to improve on their catch.
Julbert made known the promise during the 2nd edition of fish fair initiated by an Integrated Community Development Programme of the Nyong, Sanaga and Yoyo basin (NYSAYO), a project under the CACEF.
The Programme Coordinator, Emmanuel Ndgishe said the fish fair aimed at exposing the catch of local fishermen who in turn will sell their products at moderate prices.
Since fish is the main source of protein for low income earners, the Coordinator said the fair also an occasion to fight against high cost of living. In the presence of the Representative of the Governor, an Association known as “Reseau Camerounais des Femmes de la Peche,” displaced dry, fresh and smoked fish of varied types for visitors.
Cat fish, crayfish, crab, tilapia, stockfish, salt fish and bar were conspicuous in most stands with attention focused on a fresh fish (Capitaine) with net weight of 140 kg
