MINJUSTICE: Respect of Diplomatic Immunity highlighted

Experts at the Ministry of Justice and those of External Relations are reflecting on a better way of dealing with diplomatic immunities.

In a two day seminar organized in Yaounde, participants will have to grapple on matters relating to seven court decisions taken pertaining to the protection of diplomats and international organizations.

The Secretary General at the Ministry of Justice who opened the workshop, urged the over 50 participants made up of Magistrates, Lawyers and Bailiffs to be pace setters on the respect of Diplomatic immunities.

The capacity building seminar which ends tomorrow 23rd April 2015 has lay-down some practical principles that the judiciary must certainly have to follow in order to safe-guard the immunities of Diplomats.

According to the Director of Judicial Profession Florence Arrey, immunity is a legal procedure where by some categories of persons or corporate bodies such as diplomats or parliamentarians are exempted from any litigation.

A legal charge can only be issued against such persons when the immunity is lifted up.

This workshop comes at a time where legal practitioners have ignored the freedom of Diplomats despite the numerous conventions signed by the Cameroon Government stipulating the respect of Diplomatic immunities.
