The elective Assembly of the order of lawyers to the bar of Cameroon was held from Saturday, January 31, 2015 to Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Red Cross in Yaoundé.
Among the agenda of this House which was attended by approximately 2,000 lawyers, the election of the new President was the most anticipated event.
As always, the electoral jousts were long, stormy and full of twists.
After two days of various dealings, it was ultimately Maitre Jackson Ngnié Kamga, who was elected President of the order of lawyers of Cameroon. He beat the polls with 650 votes, lawyer Tchakounté Patie Charles, followed with 421 votes and master Abdoul Babu had 135 votes.
Initially, there were five candidates announced, namely Ngoulla Fotso Arlette, Abdoul Bagui, Jackson Ngnie Kamga, Tchakounté Patie Charles and Francis Sama, the outgoing President.
The electoral marathon which lasted close to 48 hours was finally held with three aspirants. Wayne Fotso Arlette, the only woman in contention, withdrew at the last minute as she asked her supporters to vote for Jackson Ngnié Kamga. Master Francis Sama, outgoing Bâtonnier, also withdrew Sunday morning before the election.
Before this final step, counsel for Cameroon first elected members of the General Assembly and the members of the Council agenda discussed the problems that undermined their profession.
Jackson Ngnié Kamga, the new President, will occupy this high office for the first time in 25 years of practicing the lawyer profession.
