Man burnt after snatching a cashless suitcase

The incident occurred at the Etougebe neighborhood in Yaounde on Thursday 9th October 2014 after 7 p.m.

According to eye witness accounts, the suspected thief on a motorcycle attempted to seize a suitcase from a parked car.

A vigilant person noticed the act and alerted those around.

In his attempt to escape, he was barricaded by an oncoming taxi.

The bike rider, a suspected accomplice, abandoned his bike and dashed away.

The public’s reaction was so spontaneous and by the time the police were called in, the suspected thief together with the motor bike had already been set ablaze in the middle of the road.

The remains of the culprit was beyond identification; only the roasted leg that fitted into a good looking shoe commonly known as “pointi nini” was visible to tell the story of this ill-fated thief.

Worst still, the stomach of the culprit had exploded into the air mixed with smoke, releasing an abnormal roasted toxic odour.

Many testified that he was well-dressed like a civil servant in a manner that he could hardly be suspected for a thief.

The road along Government Bilingual High School Etoug ebe to Carrefour Etoug-Ebe was jam-packed with people who flocked in to witness the horrible site.

It took more than three hours for close to 20 police officers to disperse the crowd that had blocked the main road.

The remains were disposed of by the council authorities.

Mr Tambe Maxime who is suspected to be an accomplice is under police custody pending further investigation.
