Maroua: Drunk gendarme kills soldier at a drinking spot

A Marshal by named Mvogo Francis has shot, in cold blood, Chief Officer Jérôme Bailassem at the entrance of a drinking spot in Toupouri in Maroua, the capital of the Far North region.

Le Jour on January 12, 2016, reported that the incident occurred two days ago.

According to the story of our colleague, "The Marshal, visibly drunk came to the door of a drinking establishment. He wanted to go in. But it was forbidden for bar owners to open their bars beyond 9:00 pm in the region. But regulars often collide with merchants to drink in peace keeping doors closed. Francis Mvogo knew that so he tried to enter. He quickly got angry and began to band the door. No one opened the door. He continued his pounding and woke the neighbors up."

Among the neighbors, was Chief Officer Jérôme Mbailassem who asked his fellow colleague who was in a varied attire to present himself.

“For reasons that were specific to him, the marshal refused to present himself. In the chaos that followed, he took out his service weapon and pointed it at Jerome. After several threats, he fired several times at close range at Jerome Bailassem, and the later fell," said Le Jour.

The witnesses at the scene rushed to try to save Jerome. Unfortunately, he died before reaching the hospital. “Taking advantage of the confusion that his act had caused, Francis Mvogo managed to escape,” said the editor of the article who informed that “The police is actively searching for Marshal Francis Mvogo,” who is on the run.

Sources have stated that this is the first time the Marshal has taken the life of a colleague. Mvogo shot a second rank police inspector when he was assigned to Bogo, a few kilometers from Maroua. An act which led to his transfer to Maroua.
