Mayors of Cameroon and their deputies are claiming the equivalent of 07 months of salary and compensation due to them, according to presidential decrees signed on September 16, 2015 by the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya. The topic was discussed on April 7, 2016, during the general assembly of the United Councils and Cities Association of Cameroon (CVUC) held in Yaounde.
According to Decree No. 2015/405, the Government Delegates, Mayors and their Deputies receive remuneration comprising: a basic salary, duties allowance, a representation allowance.
The decree states in Article 3 that the basic monthly salary of Government Delegates, Mayors and their Deputies shall be as follows: Government Delegate, four hundred thousand (400,000) CFA francs; Mayor, two hundred and fifty thousand (250-000) CFA francs; Deputy Government Delegate: two hundred thousand (200,000) CFA francs; Deputy Mayor: one hundred and fifty thousand (150,000) CFA francs.
The decree of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, also sets the conditions for obtaining such remuneration. One learns that the remuneration of Government Delegates, Mayors and their Deputies are due after service, subject to the beneficiary’s actual residence in the urban community or the concerned council. The actual residence referred the subject of a certificate of residence issued at the beginning of each fiscal year by the territorial competent D.O.
Seven months after the decision of the Head of State, Mayors are still waiting for the bell from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization. The meeting on April 7, permitted, while waiting to see clearer on their compensation, to adopt the Action Plan of 2016 and the 2016 Budget of the United Councils and Cities Association of Cameroon
