"Mayors’ salaries file is between PM Office and Presidency"

Mayors have been advised to wait patiently for the President of the Republic, Paul Biya to sign the document containing their salaries scale.

The piece of advice was dished out last January 14 by Territorial Administration and Decentralization Minister, Rene Emmanuel Sadi as he official opened the 4th Elective General Assembly meeting of United Councils and Cities of Cameroon, UCCC.

Reassuring worrying Mayors that their file was not missing, Minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi disclosed that it has already left the Prime Minister’s Office for the Presidency.

It should be recalled that Minister Rene Sadi had earlier declared that Mayors salaries are in the 2015 State Budget.

The Minister used the occasion to appeal to Mayors and City Councils Government Delegates to rally behind the President of the Republic, Paul Biya in the fight against the common enemy Boko Haram attacking Cameroon.

The Minister’s reassurance came after a hard tone speech earlier read by the President of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon, Mayor Andze Andze Emile which depicted the boiling situation of Mayors which to some could likely push them to the streets. Stressing that Mayors need peace to better plan for the development of their councils.

Andze Andze, speaking on behalf of his members declared their unconditional support to President Paul Biya in the fight against Boko Haram.

Andze Andze list re-elected as Njong retains National Treasury post The drama pundits had earlier predicted before the election was short lived because the list constituted to challenge incumbent Andze Andze was simply rejected on grounds that it was incomplete as it failed to reflect the national spread. This thus paved the way for the list of incumbent Andze Andze to sail through by acclamation.

Reacting to The SUN shortly after the re-election of Andze list, SDF Bamenda II Council Mayor, Balick Awa Fidelis and Muyuka Council CPDM Mayor all expressed satisfaction saying Mayor Andze Andze and his team have started good projects for UCCC and it was right for them to be given another chance to complete what they have initiated.

Another striking point at the General Assembly was the re-election for the second time running of SDF Mayor for Kumbo Council, Njong Fonyuy Donatus as National Treasurer for the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon.

By so doing, members of UCCC have proven that their association transcends political lines as it is based on competence. If not many CPDM Mayors could have used their heavy political weight to outsmart Njong’s candidature.

But that was not the case because all of them were unanimous that Mayor Njong Fonyuy Donatus has handled their coffers very well and thus when they listened to his elaborate presentation of the financial report, they all agreed to maintain him.

Mayor Njong Donatus

Quizzed to know how he feels about his re-election, Mayor Njong said “I am humble and very elated to see that Mayors of this country have given me again their confidence for the second consecutive time.

This is the 3rd that they are making me extremely proud; the first time was in 2002 when I was elected Senior Vice President, in 2007, I was elected the National Treasurer and in 2015 I have been re-elected for this post again.

You know that it is very difficult to guarantee the coffers of an association so that makes me really humble and grateful. That means they are satisfied with the way I have been handling the association’s coffers.

I promise to do my best not to disappoint them. I will not tolerate anybody who will want to mingle with the funds of the association. And to do that I must set the example.”
