The work on the construction of the Memve'ele Hydroelectric dam has now edged along to a completion rate of 35%.
This was revealed by the consortium responsible for the reconstruction of the dam during the Minister of Water and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna visit to the construction site.
During the visit, The Minister visited the various major parts of the project, namely: the spillway to the main dam; the water intake channel which is estimated to be about 4km long and where the factory producing electrical energy will be constructed.
The Minister was accompanied during the tour by the governor of the South Region, Jules Marcellin Ndjaga.
On his part, the Project’s Coordinator, Dieudonné Bisso, corroborated by the representative of Coyne & Bellier, the main contractor said they, however, faced some delays in the work since they hard to crack some rocks to dig deeply.
At the end of the tour, Minister Basile Atangana Kouna expressed his satisfaction and that of the state in the way the construction work is going.
The project whose foundation stone was laid last June 15, 2012 is expected to pump additional 201 MW or more of electricity into the national grid with an annual production of 1,140 GWh.
It will among others comprise four turbines of 51.6 MW, four alternators of 50 MW and four 225/11 KV elevator transformers with a capacity of 56 MVA.
It is evaluated to swallow the whopping sum of FCFA 420 billion coming from the government of Cameroon, the Eximbank of China, the African Development Bank and the Central African Economic and Development Bank.
