The Minister of transport has lifted some of the restrictions imposed on heavy trucks, but insisted on them respecting the speed limits.
In a statement released at the end of last week, Robert Nkili, Minister of transport allowed some trucks movement in the city at any time, "by reason of the specificities of the rendered benefits". Thus, carriers of gasoline, sand and deliveries of goods are exempted from the ban on movement from 6am to 9pm. He nonetheless prescribed a speed limit of 40 km/h.
“Now, it is up to the security forces and teams of road safety to enforce the regulations. The Ministry of transportation deals with the development of policies in the area", defended Nanga Derphine Eliane Marie, Director of road transport at the Ministry of transport. At the moment, some drivers are still demonstrating their irresponsibility by refusing to adhere to the decision from the minister.
