NGO to train 4000 youths on patriotism and self-reliance

The National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development has begun the selection of youth and volunteers to undergo training nationwide. The selection process was launched at the governor’s office in Yaounde recently.

The first training program is for youth aged between 17 and 21 years. For sixty days, the youth chosen from schools and vocational training centres will be trained in civic education, environmental protection, first aid, sports and national culture. Of the 4000 youth to participate nationwide, the centre region has a quota of 400 youths. 320 of them would be selected from schools in the ten divisions of the region, while 80 will come from vocational training centres.

It is hoped that the training will kindle the spirit of patriotism and nation building in the youth who will then spread it among their peers.

As concerns the volunteer program, it will involve 7000 young people aged between 18 and 40 years, with the Centre region having 1275 places. The training will be done for six months and will include courses in civic education, crop cultivation, animal husbandry and fishery.

The NCSAPD was created by presidential decree to foster the spirit of patriotism and self-reliant development among Cameroonian youths. The training programs this year would be done in partnership with the Ministry of Secondary Education, the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education, the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Protection of the Family which were all represented at the event.
