Mahamat Allamine Mayo, Head of the list for NUDP Goulfey Council and Spokesperson for Legislative Elections.
What are you going to tell your electors within the two weeks of campaign?
NUDP is an old party in Logone and Chari that has often presented candidates during elections even though we only succeeded once in winning the Blangoua council. This time, we are fielding lists of candidates for legislative elections in the whole Division and lists of candidates in five of the ten councils in the Division. These include: Kousseri, Logone-Birni, Zina, Waza and Goulfey. We are telling the population to vote for NUDP to see the difference in management. The population has openly expressed indignation at the 20 years of management by the CPDM.
What are some of the burning issues to be tackled by your party if voted?
The major problem in my Sub Division concerns the poor state of roads. We are barely 25 kilometres from Makam where the road is paved but we are unable to have access to this road especially during the rainy season when the population is compelled to travel by boat or motorbike. The advancing desert has brought untold consequences to agriculture and we are saying that the NUDP is ready to promote irrigation farming as the best way to fight famine and ensure food security.
Specifically, what programme is NUDP presenting to the population of Goulfey?
CPDM managed the council without a programme. They spend their time only talking of President Biya. It is not President Biya that will be voted in this council. About 80 per cent of the population is illiterate. NUDP intends to sensitise the people to send children to school. We want a council where councillors are all literate.
