The Speaker, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, made the pledge yesterday, January 8, 2015, while receiving New Year wishes from staff and MPs.
After some few years of delays, work on the construction of the new headquarter building of the National Assembly in the Ngoa-Ekelle neighbourhood of Yaounde is finally going to commence this year.
Speaking yesterday, January 8, 2015, in Yaounde while receiving New Year wishes from his staff and Members of Parliament, the Speaker, Honorable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, disclosed that paper work was about to be completed. He therefore called on his staff overseeing the project to get in touch with the Chinese construction company for work to begin.
Earlier, the Secretary General of the National Assembly, Victor Yene Ossomba, spoke of the activities of 2014, recalling that the House successfully hosted the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, which was attended by over 600 delegates.
Other success stories of the past year were the election of Cameroonian-born Martin Chungong – a former National Assembly staffer – as Secretary General of the Inter-parliamentary Union and the re-election of Hon. Nkodo Dang as First Deputy Speaker of the Pan-African Parliament.
Yesterday’s event ended with the decoration of staff and the hand-over of testimonials to those proceeding on retirement this year.
