National Museum displays Biya’s cultural policy - Minister

Arts and Culture Minister, Ama Tutu Muna, has stated that the rehabilitated National Museum in Yaounde falls in line with President Paul Biya’s Communal Liberalism.

Speaking on November 6, during an open door event organized by her Ministry as part of celebrations marking 32 years of Biya’s accession to power, Ama Tutu thanked the President for the rehabilitation work, saying the museum can now be described as the citadel of Cameroonian culture.

According to her, the cultural heritage that abounds in Cameroon and showcased in the museum, shows the President’s sustained cultural policy to shun ideological slavery, promote development and his resolve efforts to preserve the country’s cultural heritage.

The Minister presented traditional items, tools, weapons and pictures of Cameroonian legends in the museum. She said the several facets of the museum, ranging from moral, academic and aesthetic cultural evolution of Cameroon are aimed at ensuring that Cameroonians recognise themselves as sons and daughters of the same fatherland.

She urged Cameroonians to visit the museum in order to get the right knowledge of their history and share the vision of the Head of state.

“We have to keep and treasure our unity in diversity. Without the right knowledge of the past, it will be difficult to evolve,” she said.

Visiting the transformed museum, the Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, Omer Faruk Dogan, commended the Cameroon Government for using such an initiative to consolidate Cameroon’s position as Africa in miniature. He said the Turkish Government is ready to support Cameroonians in their quest for peace and cultural preservation. He referred to the museum as Cameroon’s connection to the world.

The Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, said the Museum which habours objects used from the Stone Age, is a strong signal to Cameroonian people.

“It reminds Cameroonians to always remember the past,” Fame Ndongo said while lauding the quality of work carried out to make the Museum unique.
