As part of the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the National Olympic and Sporting Committee of Cameroon (Cnosc), through the National Olympic Academy of Cameroon, organized an awareness-raising campaigns for young athletes.
Celebrated for the first time in Cameroon, the International Day for Sports was linked to the day the Academy started the 17th edition of the school sport (Fenassco) in Nkongsamba.
"As per a Greek ideal, developing the body, means to develop the spirit as well. However, to develop the spirit, require values arising from the practice of sport, of which the first is peace," said Prof. Jean Tabi Manga, Director-general of the National Olympic Academy of Cameroon.
He added that, "by supporting school sports and youth, the goal is to raise awareness of the Olympic values by performances to identify young talents, but also learn values such as honesty, learning to go beyond an individual's potential, respect of arbitral decisions and the opponent, the rejection of doping and the financing of the games...".
Among other activities, transfers education Olympic values, practical workshops and video projections to illustrate the philosophy of Olympism. "This year, the Fenassco has placed its games under the banner of school sports and patriotism, which is a very high social value.
It develops in the young the feeling of belonging to a nation, a country, which needs them for its development", concluded Prof. Jean Tabi Manga. In addition, other events were organized by the Cenajes and training institutes in sport.
