The Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, has said six years from now, a national entrance examination will be written by medicine students to enable them get in to public service.
He made the revelation on Friday, July 10, at the Yaounde Sport Complex while chairing the Yaounde I university student’s certificate awards to laureates, from the Faculty of Arts, Letters and Social Sciences, FALSH, the Faculty of Sciences, FS, and the National advance School Of Engineering, ENSP, from the year 2008 -2013.
Fame Ndongo lauded the University to be an institution filled with shining diamonds of knowledge which have been ranked amongst the top 100 universities in Africa.
Minster Jacques Fame called on students to use their knowledge and certificates to create employment.
He reiterated that the training undergone, is to enable students create jobs and ameliorate living condition in their various towns and villages of origin “Do not only wait on the Government to provide jobs.
I’m urging you to use your certificates and knowledge in other to ameliorate the conditions of your of towns and villages,” he said.
Fame Ndongo appreciated the electric buses donated to the varsity by Bollore group which has eased movement on campus.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the University, Prof. Maurice Aurelien Sosso, said the ceremony was a historic one.
“For some decades now, this tradition disappeared in State universities in Cameroon. So in my quest to propel this institution, the charts of renowned universities in the world, he decided to revive the tradition by organising this event,” he said.
Yaounde University I, has been ranked by web metrics, Shanghai, Elsevier amongst top one hundred universities in Africa.
Created in 1961 as higher Institution of learning, it now has six faculties and Specialised Centres, such as Faculty of Arts, Letters, Social Sciences, FALSH, Faculty of Sciences, FS, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Higher Teachers’ Training College, National Advanced School of Engineering, ENSP, University Institute of Wood Technology of Mbalmayo, UIT-Bois and Specialised Centres such as Medical and Social welfare, CMS, Biotechnology Centre, CBT.
148 theses were defended in the course of the academic year 2012/2013; 1.580 registered doctorate student for 2014/2015; FALSH 20,037, FS 18.834, ENSP 1.500 students received certificates for the year 2013-2014.
Academically the school has a renovation and digitisation of the main library and practices online registration of students. Yaounde University I has 51.015 students currently registered and 1.145 teaching staff.
