National museum refurbished

Special opening days have been organised in the national museum. The opening days started on 6th November and ends on 9th November 2014.

The open days mark the beginning of activities in the museum which had been closed for five years due to renovation works.

The many quests who have been visiting the museum are all agreed that it has received a total face-lift.

The beautiful artifacts on exhibition including relics like calabashes, traditional outfits and wood and iron carvings amongst others are those objects that have caught the eyes of the curious visitors.

The revamped National Museum containing photographs of home icons like Ahmadou Ahidjo and Andre Marie Mbida and other objects in exhibition recalls Cameroon’s history.

Other reminders of the country’s past enclosed in glass are utensils, masks, weapons, pottery and tools amongst others.

The display of the chair on which Queen Elisabeth II sat during her visit to Cameroon in 1959 as well as cutlery used by former President Ahmadou Ahidjo are all relics of the age-long story of Cameroon.

As old as 84, the museum has moved from the 1930 colonial governor’s residence, to the presidential palace in 1982 and then the National Museum in 1988.

The structure is not only a representation of Cameroon’s early history but also a rich cultural heritage and the country’s relations with the world.
