The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Jean Claude Mbwentchou has announced the first-ever National Urban Forum slated to take place from 12th to 15th October, 2014.
The annoumcement was made during a press briefing in Yaounde on Wednesday, 8th October, 2014.
The theme for the four-day forum is “Planning and Managing Urban Development: the time for action is now”.
During the press briefing, Minister Jean Mbwentchou deplored the anarchy existing in town planning in Cameroon.
To the Minister, the good urban planning seen in foreign towns is soon to be a relaity in Cameroon.
As way of achieving this aim, Mr Jean Mbwentchou called on all hands on deck towards the elaboration of necessary documents, financial sacrifices and the deploying of competent workmanship.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development also noted that in as much as there is need to achieve the desired goal, demolition shall be limited, while restructuring and creating new neighbourhoods will be encouraged.
This proclamation of a national forum on urban development, follows after Cameroon joined the international community to celebrate World Habitat Day last 6th October 2014.
