The new Committee members for the New Identification System were installed by the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé, yesterday in Yaoundé.
Members of the committee were charged with the supervision of the operations for the putting in place of the new security identification system in Cameroon.
Martin Mbarga Nguélé urged the 12-man committee to buckle down to work for the realization of government’s objective of putting in place a totally reformed, secured and adapted identification system.
The Delegate General for National Security reminded the committee members of the strategic and technical importance of their missions defined by the Decision signed by the Secretary General at the Presidency who created the committee. The committee members are expected to define the options and strategic orientations, validate the technical options, carry out periodic evaluation of works, and take corrective measures amongst others.
With these, Martin Mbarga Nguélé reminded the committee members that the new identification system falls in line with government’s policy to modernize and secure its civil status which for now is permeable and prone to all sorts of manipulation. In this regard, the new system envisages the attribution of unique and definite numbers to all users in a bid to render the Cameroonian nationality more secured.
He thus challenged the supervisory committee to draw up efficient procedures, prepare texts that are clear and precise and make proposals that will enable the new system generate revenue within a short period to auto-finance its operations.
The committee is comprised of representatives from different government administrations and state structures in charge of securing the Nationality System (SENAC), the National Centre for Information Technology (CENADI) and a representative of the French firm contracted for the job, GEMALTO. As of now, the committee is expected to lay the ground work before the production of new identification document begins.
