New courthouse for CFI almost ready for operation

Infrastructure of architectural jewel that will house the Court of First Instance (CFI) of Yaoundé-Mendong is almost entirely complete.

Pending the inauguration by the Minister of Justice, some sources close to the support are confident this new jurisdiction should be in full swing early next year.

Located a short distance from SIC camp, the brand new building is adjacent to the Afriland First Bank on the corner.

Fully funded by the 10th EDF (European Development Fund) in its section dedicated to the support program for the justice sector, the building work was planned to last for twenty months.

According Kossakbé André, a security officer we met at the scene, the opening ceremony has been rescheduled and postponed more than once by the Minister of Justice, Laurent Esso.

Regarding the operationalisation of the courthouse, information drawn from a reliable source indicates it falls at first to the President of the Republic, Supreme Head of the Judiciary, to conform the taking of office of this court by an order or decree.

The last step is the actual appointment of a public prosecutor, a court president, judges, education, etc. Otherwise, the next High Judicial Council which, will be held inevitably before the end of the year, will provide an opportunity for the president to finally lift the TPI Yaoundé-Mendong.
