New school year effective - Governor Beti

He evaluated the effectiveness of classes in some schools in all four Divisions on September 15. Exactly one week gone into the new school year, Littoral’s Governor Joseph Beti Asomo went evaluating the effective takeoff of some schools in the Region on Monday, September 15.

At exactly 8:00 am, the Governor’s convoy hit the road to the Nkam Division and brave the way to Government School Bonepoupa. Wanki Glory, an English Teacher in Class Four, asked her 17 pupils present in a class occupied by 30 pupils last year, to underline the action word in some sentences on the blackboard. Though effective learning was going on in other classes, Wanki Glory said attendance was poor during the first week.

The story was different in Government High School Bonepoupa marked by unkempt surroundings and lack of students and teachers. The Governor was surprise when he saw just two students in an examination class. “Most of our teachers have been transferred to other schools without replacement.

This discouraged most parents who preferred to withdraw their children and enrol in other schools,” the principal of the institution, Jean Danielle Nkongo lamented. The school that was created in 1998 did not boost of 50 students during the regional tour.

Classes were effective at Government High School Logbadjecck, in the Sanaga-Maritime Division, with Dieudonné lecturing the Lower Sixth students on concrete and abstract nouns while Spanish and German languages were being taught in forms three and four respectively.

The convoy moved to Government Bilingual Primary School Missole II, where some fused classes receive lectures in an eye saw plank building where domestic animals seek refuge in after school hours.

According to one of the teachers, Kenneth Yuomegse, the building meant for the classes have been constructed but is yet to be received by the government. In the other section of the school, pupils attend classes comfortably.

In the Moungo Division, form three students of Government Secondary School Bomono were receiving lectures on the ‘Administrative Organisation of Cameroon’. The Regional convoy was satisfied with attendance and learning in renowned Lycée Polyvalent in Douala IV, Alfred Saker Collage in Douala I and Le Ribambelles in Bonapriso in the Wouri Division.

After the tour, Governor Beti Asomo held a press briefing during which he expressed satisfaction. He acclaimed parents in the Sanaga-Maritime and Nkam Divisions for giving equal opportunities to both boys and girls.

He called on feet-dragging parents to register their children and enjoined councils to dispatch minimum packages latest September 25th.
