Ngondo 2012 holds on usual sit

Douala City Council Government Delegate disclosed in a news conference on Monday.

The 2012 edition of the Sawa people's annual cultural festival, Ngondo, will hold on its usual site, Fritz Ntone Ntone has said. In a news conference in Douala on Thursday November 1, the Government Delegate to the Douala City Council refuted allegations that the recent allocation of the usual site for the creation of Dangote Cement Factory will hinder the holding of the annual event.

Addressing the press, Fritz Ntone Ntone explained that a technical working session was held on October 23, involving the City Council, the Douala Port Authority and representatives from both Ngondo and Dangote enterprise. Four major resolutions were reached, taking into account the interests of all parties concerned.

While emphasizing that the land in question belongs to the Port, it was agreed that the Ngondo 2012 festivities alongside construction works for the cement factory will go on simultaneously, on well demarcated portions. The technical follow-up committee comprising representatives from each party will be created while the Douala City Council would ensure the total success of the event as in previous years.

Lastly, the contested area called "Base Elf" will be developed into a tourist destination, while awaiting further decisions.
