The Nigerian Immigration Service, Zamfara State Command, has repatriated 450 irregular immigrants from Niger, Cameroon and other neighbouring African countries as part of measures to check the influx of illegal immigrants ahead of the general elections.
This was disclosed at a press briefing in Gusau, jointly organised by the incoming and outgoing Comptrollers, Shehuri Sadiq Baba and Bukar Isah, respectively.
The incoming Comptroller, Sadiq Baba, said there was an appreciable number of irregular citizens of other African countries in the state.
He maintained that no citizen of other countries would be allowed into Nigeria without valid travel documents or take part in the political activities of the country.
"The present mop-up exercise in Zamfara State received the cooperation of various traditional leaders and other security agencies. It may interest you to know that some of these irregular immigrants have in their possessions, the Nigerian national identity cards, voters cards etc," he said.
