North West: Menka gets village status

On the strength of a recent decision by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Menka is now formally recognised as the 13th village in Santa Subdivision. Mezam Division of the North West Region. It also has the status of a Third Class Chiefdom. The Divisional Officer for Santa Subdivision, Viang Mekala, was in Menka recently to complete the recognition process.

It was against this backdrop 31-year-old Asobo Pius Ngu was presented to the public as the Fon or Traditional Ruler of Menka, with the DO urging him to rise to expectation as the auxiliary of the administration by ensuring that peace reigns in the village. He was implored to be objective and sincere in resolving conflicts. It was a day for Menka whose inhabitants filed out to celebrate the landmark event.

Song and dance showcased the traditional weight of the new Fondom, while His Royal Highness Asobo Pius Ngu committed to ensure the unity of Menka for development to follow. The Mayor of Santa, Kan Elroy Moses, was also around with the blessings of the council. He saluted the administration for giving Menka a chance to hope for development as a village. Santa Subdivision is the gateway into the North West Region from the West Region.
