Northern CMR records an upsurge in sexual violence

With the upsurge of sexual violence in the North, parents have been called upon to watch over their female wards.

Presently, parents in the North live in the fear of seeing their daughters become the target of rapists due to the current cases reported in the area. Meanwhile security forces have decided to step up their efforts to eradicate this phenomenon.

After reports of rape were made to the regional delegation of Social Affairs of the North, M. Halilou responsible for this structure noted that: "only two cases were recorded at our level, but there are several other cases but the parents do not want to bring them to our attention".

For parents, they do not want to come out to say that their daughter has fallen prey to rapist as it tends to stigmatize them in their locality. "When a girl is raped, she is rejected by her mates. She will hardly have a husband if they are aware of her situation", noted a dignitary.

"We are aware of these cases of rape. It should be noted that these despicable acts occur in isolated areas, abandoned fields or deserted corners hence girls are advised to stay clear off such areas. We are at work. Our teams are deployed every night to hunt down these rogues', concluded a police source.
