Notorious conmen apprehended at Village

Among the conmen who claimed to have over FCFA 200 million, were a lady and an imposture law enforcement officer.

A 54-year old woman, Bernadette Mantchi left her Village neighbourhood for Dakar market and unfortunately boarded a car popularly known as ‘clando’ operated by four conmen.

Few metres after she entered the ‘clando’, one of the conmen in uniform, Nancis Hervé Tchatchouan brutally commanded that the car be stopped for check.

He opened the boot allegedly loaded with bags of money and threatened to take the owner to the police station.

The owner pleaded to give FCFA 10 million each to the occupant of the car from the over FCFA 200 million he claimed was in his keeping in exchange for their silence.

The female swindler, Christine Fotso Mawafa, born in 1975 said it might be ‘blood money’ and another immediately imposed the money be cleansed.

Since the victim wanted to be FCFA 10 million richer, she followed them to a fake witch doctor at ‘entre Bienvenue’ in Village.

The witch doctor instructed that all of them should bring out the money they have for cleansing. The victim, Bernadette brought FCFA 200,000 and was asked to add FCFA 300,000 in order to get the FCFA 10 million.

Bernadette ran Helter-skelter to borrow the additional sum to no avail. She finally called his son-in-law, Arouna who is a police officer to help her grab the life-changing opportunity.

The victim, who already positioned an imaginary duplex with the yet-to-receive FCFA 10 million, was disappointed to learn from his in-law that the men were crooks.

The in-law told Bernadette to pretentiously hand an envelope of money to the tricksters for his colleagues and him to arrest them.

As they followed her to the scene, she carried out the instructions to the latter and the policemen in civilian were arrested two of the five charlatans among them, the imposture law enforcement officer, Nancis Hervé Tchatchouan and the lady, Christine Fotso Mawafa.

They are presently at the Nilon Brigade, helping the police on how to get the runaway gang members.
