The Second International Congress of Nursery Schools has opened in Yaounde at the Yaounde Conference Centre this 21st October 2015 under the theme, “Environmental education, a necessity for nursery schools.”
During the three-day workshop organised by l’Association Camerounaise pour la Promotion de l’Ecole Maternelle (ACAPPEM), stakeholders in the sector of nursery education will discuss ways of inserting the teaching of environmental issues into the curriculum of nursery school.
Opening the session, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim hailed the initiative and hoped that the discussions and conclusions arrived at will be implemented.
The President of ACAPPEM, Anne Valentine Bisso Bissa emphasised that it is at the nursery level that a child has to be taught how to throw dirt into the dustbin. To her, proper nursery education will help build up the child into a responsible citizen.
Experts in the field also argue that at tender ages, children are able to grasp basic knowledge in order to be better citizens in future.
