Officer who leaked MINDEF document punished

The Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense Joseph Beti Assomo did not disclose the identity of the concerned during his announcement on Monday at the CRTV national radio station.

The author of the leaked circular of March 2, 2016, signed by the Minister Joseph Beti Assomo was unmasked. The latter said Monday during an interview at the CRTV National radio station that it is an officer who carries the rank of captain.

“You’re referring to the message of the MINDEF that was found on social networks. In reality, if you read the contents of this message carefully, you will understand that these were internal measures of vigilance that we sent to our collaborators. Unfortunately, one of our employees (who has already been identified and has already been struck with the heaviest penalty) allowed himself to indulge in this information leakage.

This captain of his state was formally identified the same day that this unfortunate leak took place, “he answered his interviewer. The minister talked about “preventive measures” and ensured that there was no room for panic and fear on the sides of the population.

The message carried on March 2, 2016, was about “Threats of terrorist attacks.” He prescribed a series of measures to secure the barracks and premises of the Ministry of Defense. Joseph Beti Assomo also recommended, “immediate closure” of the north entrance of his ministry and the installation of speed bumps at the entrance to the Yaounde Military hospital.

The Minister Delegate to the Presidency in charge of Defense also demanded pedestrian and motorized patrols to go round various ministerial buildings, places of large gatherings. Defense and security forces were also asked to increase vigilance especially in the Brickyard neighborhood of Yaounde.
