Orange Foundation equips Bulu Blind Centre with IT

Orange Foundation, in one of its reach-out activities, recently equipped the Bulu Centre fot the Blind in Buea with eight computers with voice commands and other accessories for visually impaired persons.

The donation and installation of the well-equipped Information Technology, IT, lab was described by the Coordinator of Bulu Blind Centre as timely, given the new trend and way of learning that is fast becoming computer and technology-based.

The Coordinator acknowledged the fact that Orange foundation took into consideration the socio-economic interest of the visually impaired.

He remarked that the number of students under their care stands at 30 with over 440 trainees who have benefited from the institute since its creation in 1967 under the Ministry of Social Affairs.

While thanking Orange Foundation for the good gesture, the Coordinator noted that the students are being given sound training in both the English and French languages, while those who can’t put up with such studies are given a sound vocational training.

He also acknowledged the long and good relationship they have shared with Orange Cameroun since 2006 when the company assisted them with assorted didactic material that suit the needs of their students and trainees.

He intimated that, with the new IT Centre, they will need a printer and assistance from Orange Foundation to ensure that the IT Centre is been taken care of.

The Secretary General of Orange Foundation, Elizabeth Ehabe, reaffirmed the commitment of Orange Foundation to help and support disabled persons, as well as provide for communities, institutions and those affected by natural disasters, among a whole lot of other things having to do with serving the communities that need help.

The move which she asserted is, “aimed at reducing the digital gap as well as stigmatisation resulting from ignorance,” was also taken to Kumba before proceeding to Buea from where it will be moving to Yaounde and Bafousam. Among other items that have been donated to the Bulu Centre for the Visually Impaired is a washing tub as well as rehabilitation of the student’s dormitory.

The Southwest Regional Delegate of Social Affairs, Wilfred Abah, who also attended the ceremony, acknowledged and thanked Orange Foundation for choosing one of their institutions, especially that with students requiring special needs because of their impairment.

He remarked that the IT Centre will enable the discovery of new talents among the visually impaired students while stating that it is his wish that the partnership with Orange Foundation continues to the future.

Abah decried the lack of water that makes life tough for the students and called for other philanthropists to lend a hand of help to make life better for the impaired students.
