Over 450,000 children to be vaccinated against polio in the West

907 social mobilisers and approximately 1,000 vaccination teams have been on-site last Friday in the area of the West. Their objective was to reach 456,944 children from 0 to 5 years old, and to inform at least 95% of the parents on the dangers of the poliomyelitis.

It is within the framework of the national days of vaccination synchronized in response against poliomyelitis, which proceeded in two phases: from 19 to September 21 and October 30 to November 02, 2014.

The characteristic of this countryside is that it is also organized in nine other areas of the country and ten more or less close countries: Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, CAR, DRC, Angola, Chad, Sao-Tome, Burundi and Nigeria.

The people must understand that it is not only the business of Cameroon, but a problem of public health which challenges all the countries, raised the person in charge of communication at the regional delegation of the Public health for the West, Adalbert Tchetchia.

To be effective on the ground, the regional persons in charge of health have set up strategies which consist of door-to-door, the visit of the places of gathering (churches, markets, tollbooths, school).

It is necessary to add the deployment of the special teams which were charged to reach the difficult zones to access. These strategies made it possible to cater for 60% of the children.
