Sensitisation campaigns for the collection of voter’s cards by the national elections management body, Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, in the Littoral Region is paying off. Since the exercise kicked off on November 19, 2015, over 80 per cent of the cards have been collected.

Owners of the electoral document registered between 2012 and 2014 at various centres across the Littoral have been implored to collect them through on-going campaigns on radio, TV, posters, flyers and deployment of workers of Elecam to marketplaces, popular junctions and other busy spots in the city. These campaigns, ELECAM officials say, have contributed greatly to the success of the exercise.

Besides, ELECAM workers are calling on residents to verify their information on the electoral list if they are correct. So far, over 500 people who did the biometric registration in year 2015 have done so since November 19, 2015 across the region. Errors such as wrongly spelt names as well as errors on date and place of birth, amongst others, have been identified and corrections made.

It is worth noting that the biometric registration which ended on August 31, 2015, will recommence January 2, 2016. Meanwhile, ELECAM continues to carry out public sensitisation, urging the public to verify all information on the electoral lists and submit appropriate corrections where necessary.
