Pedagogic Year Launched in Secondary Education

The 2013-2014 year kicked off in Yaounde yesterday, October 10, 2013.

Government Technical High School, Nkolbisson, Yaounde was the venue yesterday October 10, 2013 of the launch of the ninth edition of the solemn pedagogic reopening of the Ministry of Secondary Education yesterday October 10, 2013.

The theme for year is "A pedagogy of excellence for an exemplary republic." It was an opportunity for secondary education officials to give a balance sheet of last year and plan for the future in view of improving the quality of education in Cameroon.

Speaking at the opening, the Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes, said the major priorities for 2013-2014 will be the drafting of pilot curricular and references documents for training in eight branches of technical education and the implementation of these programmes and reference documents. He called on teachers not to only give children knowledge through training, but also by competence linked to ethical values such as the quest for excellence, dignity, discipline, hard work, among others.

Louis Bapes Bapes used the occasion to announce the introduction of new subjects in to the syllabus for sixième and cinquième in the French sub system of education and Form One and Form Two in the Anglophone sub system of education. He added that the drafting of reference documents for training is in the completion phase. He called on all to work hand hand-in-glove in order to have meet set objectives.
