Police rescue driver from infuriated villagers

A truck driver, whose names The Post could not immediately get, is currently undergoing medical attention at the Kumba District Hospital after angry villagers beat him to near death for knocking down two children.

The incident occurred on March 3, between the villages of Bole Bakundu and Nake Bakundu when one of the children knocked down by the truck reportedly died on the spot, while the other is said to be in a critical state at the same hospital.

The Post gathered that the truck, which was speeding, knocked down the children and continued unperturbed. The driver is said to have increased the speed as he headed towards Kumba.

Angered by this, villagers of Bole Bakundu, alongside commercial motor riders went after the driver. Apparently, under pressure from the chase, the driver reportedly lost control and bumped into a bridge at Nake Bakundu.

The villagers are said to have pulled the driver out of his truck and pounced on him until elements of State security intervenes and took him to the hospital.
It would be recalled that in December 2015, villagers of the same Bole Bakundu set a vehicle ablaze for killing a child. The driver equally escaped after the angry villagers almost lynched him.
