Political activists demand release of Gerard Mephou

Members of political activist group 'Tribunal article 53' headed by Gérard Kuissu Mephou are demanding the release of their leader who was arrested March 14, 2015, and has been transferred to the Secretariat of State for Defence (SED). They denounced the violation of his rights.

Gérard Kuissu Mephou political activist and journalist arrested on the evening of Saturday, March 14, 2015 in the company of three other members of the Association "Tribunal article 53", was reportedly transferred to Yaounde.

According to Benjamin Guiffo, one of the three people arrested with him, but released the same day, the Coordinator of the pro-democracy organization has been remanded in custody, in the cell called "Pentagon" in the Secretariat of State for Defence (Sed).

He accused the police of the Littoral of "violation" of the rights of his comrade. "He was dispatched to the capital at 6 o'clock in the morning to be heard in the presence of his lawyer in 10 hours as agreed on Sunday", noted Benjamin Guiffo.

A the moment, members are mobilizing to support the release of Gérard Kuissu Mephou and at least three lawyers are expected to support at the judicial level.

The mobilization was formed by a collective of activists and activists of civil society composed of the Rhedac, human rights defence organisation, MPC party political, the Cameroon O'Bosso and Amnesty international association.

Amnesty international association has informed the authorities and the National Commission of human rights and freedoms about the case.

During his stay in the Littoral police station, Kuissu Mephou was reportedly interrogated on "piracy" of the website of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon.
