Preparations for the centenary of martyrs kicks off

Preparations for a special celebration of the heroes of the national resistance are ongoing. These celebrations aim to mark the 100 years that Rudolf Duala Manga Bell and his faithful Secretary Adolf Ngosso Din were hanged by the German colonial administration.

All defenders of national integrity, known and unknown will receive a tribute during the celebration of the centenary of the death of its martyrs. Instead of the usual week of activities witnessed during the previous editions, the festivities will go this year from August to December 2014.

And, even though 1914 is the reference year for the celebration, some personalities and figures of resistance before or shortly after, were selected.

This is the case of the Bakweri Kuva Likenye Chief, who died mysteriously in 1894, after a fierce opposition to the colonial power before he was defeated.

For the Organizing Committee, "the celebrations from August to December 2014 has the ambition to launch commemorative days that will be enriched from year to year, integrating tributes to the great figures of the resistance coming from other countries in Africa who lived during the German colonial period".

A rundown of the Program includes conferences, festive evenings, theatrical performances, concerts, planting trees symbols, inaugurations of monuments tributes, traditional rites, military honours, and ecumenical worship.
