Preparations heighten in Douala for Women's Day

The launch of activities to mark the 30th edition of the International Women’s Day celebrations in Wouri Division of the Littoral Region, on March 3, 2015, brought together women’s groups from all six subdivisions.

They demonstrated their engagement to meet the 12 objectives adopted by 149 countries during the 4th World Women’s Conference in Beijing in 1995.

Launching the weeklong activities, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Wouri, Naseri Paul Bea, challenged the women to work harder in their respective fields of work rather than complain.

He said they should copy the example of the late Mayor of Douala V, Françoise Foning, who had many functions and fought like a man not only in politics, but also in business for the wellbeing of the people.

Activities for the week include capacity-building workshops on income-generating activities like the production of liquid and powder detergent, hair oil, yoghurt, natural juice and the processing of soya beans.

They will also have lectures on reproductive health and discussions on issues that directly affected women.

Earlier, the launch at the regional level brought together over 300 women from the Moungo, Nkam, Sanaga Maritime and Wouri Divisions, who expressed their readiness to make a difference in their respective divisions.
