Public space cleared at Bonamoussadi

A release of sidewalks and pavement operation took place Friday. The police stormed Bonamoussadi on Friday, January 30, 2015 with an objective of supervising the clearing of the public paths.

This operation was carried out by the authorities of the Urban Community of Douala (CUD). Constructions and other bulky facilities along the roads and sidewalks were crushed by machinery of the Cud.

Fritz Ntone Ntone, the Government delegate in Douala, present during the activity reminded them of a few basics on urban policy: "there is no war between the State and its citizens but the State simply ask for some compliance and some discipline. The roadway is for the movement of cars, motorbikes and bicycles. The sidewalk, it is for the movement of pedestrians. So when you conduct activities in these areas it is not normal.

This action comes after several warnings in 2014, asking the offenders to release public ways: "we had already sent summonses at the end of last year and it was extended the grace period but this extension time has been exhausted".

The action in Bonamoussadi is part of a series of operations for the liberation of the pavement and sidewalks observed in recent days in Douala, in the fight against urban disorder.
