Public works minister announces use of local resources

The minister during one of his working visit devoted it to the promotion of local materials tested in Akonolinga.

"The process of finalization of this process, after the experimental phases, will lead to the extension. It will remain an immaterial part which consists in adapting the administrative aspects such as procurement," Patrice Amba Salla, Minister of public works explained.

But already, next year, he said, the Government will push local and national Governments to resort to solutions of local materials that allow them to drastically reduce costs over bar obstacles such as accessibility to the construction sites. To build classrooms there will be no need to mobilize a large truck, tons of cement, or a crane if it for example to build a town hall.

Also, upon his arrival to the brand new Mve public school classrooms, built with compressed earth blocks, the Minister expressed worries about the legacy of the experience to the community. A little later, he advised teachers of the artisanal and rural Section from the centre of the town of Akonolinga to constitute a group of entrepreneurs who would manufacture bricks to provide buildings to the region.

This could also be a source of income for the municipality which would support or associate to such an initiative, he observed. "It is a source of jobs for young people and a way of developing labour-intensive jobs," the Minister concluded.
