Rampant floods cause loss of life, property

Several accidents leading to loss of lives have already been registered in the regions of the West, Littoral, North, Center, etc following torrential rains.

In Bafoussam, two girls were swept away by the waters after a violent storm last Tuesday at the neighborhood of Tyo.

The lifeless body of Ferbiane Kuete, 10 years and Princess Yemeli, pupils at the public school in Tyo were found in the river, behind the house and buried a few hours after in their village in the Bamboutos.

In the month of August, the district of Bibemi, department of Benouè in the northern region also recorded its first damage following the heavy rains. It caused some deaths, hundreds of displaced, major material damage with a cholera epidemic including 23 reported cases, a balance sheet give non-exhaustive accounts of losses.

Last April, it was the outbreak of a great storm with powerful gusts of wind and lightning which caused the death of three minesweepers in the Moungo River.

One of the bodies was found two days later in the career of Banya not far from Akwa-Nord. In November 2013, Sadatou Mouamadou and his daughter Mariam Nadja, aged three months, Narcisse Nana, his wife and his daughter Fortune aged 2 years were drowned, following floods caused by heavy rain in certain neighborhoods of Douala.
