Regional Governors meet on health and security in focus

Governors of the ten regions of Cameroon have met in their annual semester conference in Yaounde.

The conference is holding under the theme “Administrative authorities, security challenges, real health risks and the implementation of major infrastructure projects”.

The three-day meeting that began on 17th September zoomed on health and security issues.

How best to combat the terrorist sect, Boko Haram and the consequent influx of refugees, what efficient blockades can be erected to guard against the Ebola virus and managing the flood situation.

Partner Institutions including the Ministries of Public Health, Public Works, Water and Energy and the General Delegation of National Security have been sending competent authorities to explain their actions on the field with regard to these preoccupations.

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Rene Emmanuel Sadi called on each governor to collaborate as much as possible with the authorities in dealing with these issues.

A number of these regional heads took turns to update the assembly on actions taken on the field.

Concerning Ebola, the Governor of the South West Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai indicated that quarantine centres have been created to isolate any suspected case and the border with Nigeria has been closed.

He raised the issue of cushioning the economic down turn of the measures put in place.

East Regional Governor, Dieudonne Ivaha Diboa was happy to state that the number of refugees arriving the region from the Central African Republic has dropped in the last two months.

The conference was also an opportunity for the regional heads to evaluate progress made in line with major projects within their jurisdiction.

The conclusions at the close of the meeting will enable the governors chat a way forward.
