Rescue mission continues after two boats capsize at Lagdo

River River

Two engine boats transporting hundreds of people sank into the artificial lake last Saturday 6th June 2015.

Administrative and security officials are presently combing the lake to rescue the passengers though so far, 38 bodies have been retrieved while others are still missing.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined but the initial findings hold that bad weather condition, non-respect of security rules and overloading might have contributed to the tragedy.

The two boats were loaded with passengers: some from the weekly market at Lagdo and others from a marriage ceremony.

Informed of the accident, the Governor of the North region, Jean Abate Edi’i has stopped all night journeys by boat.

The Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya has sent a condolence message to families affected by the accident.
