Road Safety: Four mobile weighing stations acquired

The Minister of Public Works, Patrice Amba Salla has presented four new mobile vans equipped with weighing materials to the public.

The mobile vans were presented on Tuesday 11th November 2014 in Nomayos during the launching of the repressive phase of the control of heavy duty vehicles along the major highways in Cameroon.

The mobile weighing stations will help check overloading of Lorries and trucks.

Minister Patrice Amba Salla explained that the new system will aid in ensuring security especially as the mobile vans will be able to track down vehicles which escape the stationed checkpoints.

The Minister also noted that the innovation will cause the staff of the stationed weighing stations to be more duty-conscious in order that their results are not considered doubtful or cancelled by the mobile stations’ records.

Officials in the transport sector say this new system will also help hunt down those who escape paying toll gate fees.

In an interview over the local press, the Public Works Minister disclosed the arrival of about four other mobile weighing stations by January 2015.
