Roadside bread: a preference to most city dwellers

Roadside bread has become a "do or die" product for most Yaounde city dwellers who consume it regardless of its insanitary conditions.

The breads are mostly exposed in cane baskets along the roadside or in the markets and at times kept around gutters with numerous flies hovering around.

Despite the unhygienic conditions, most consumers prefer to get them because they are affordable. Consumers get them at 250 FRS instead of 300 as sold in the bakery.

Ndi Raymond is a long time consumer of roadside bread and cares very less of its unhygienic conditions but would blissfully run for it because of its affordability. To him, the unhygienic condition of roadside bread is not different from the bread sold in bakeries. Even if it poses any danger to his health, like he says, God will take total control.

A baker and vendor Achille Otsama on his part says he prefers to transport his bread and sell them at the roadside where he is sure to have a quick-turn-over as passers-buy and travellers greatly need them. He cares very less about the hygienic conditions of the bread because they are not different from those at the bakery.

Meanwhile another buyer like Oumarou will rather prefer to get his own piece of bread from the bakery which to him is safer than those at the road side.
