SOPECAM Staff Train On Fire Fighting Techniques

Some 16 staff, mostly from the Technical Department of the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) on Tuesday July 8, at the headquarter of the company received theoretical and practical training on different techniques to extinguish fire as well as first rescue methods to be given to fire victims.

The trainer, Dominique Ndaji, said in 24 hours, the staff were trained on specific technics to extinguish fire, preventive measures to apply against fire outbreak and how to reduce panic when faced with a fire outbreak. Dominique Ndaji explained that during the theoretical phase, participants received information on what is fire, the cause of a fire outbreak, the composition of fire and the different class of fire outbreak.

Participants were also schooled on what is a fire extinguisher and the different types. SOPECAM workers also received knowledge on the general principals of a rescue operation and the first objectives of any rescue operation. In the practical phase, the staff learned practical methods on what to do when there is a fire outbreak that is how to use the fire alarm and how to evacuate people from the fire site.

A senior staff from the Technical Department at SOPECAM, Paul Andjo Nzoukio told the press that it was necessary to train workers on what to do when faced with a fire outbreak given that the company will soon install new machines that is KBA Comet and the ACORO A7 which is already used to print books.

Paul Andjo also noted that the training is not only on how to secure the new machines but also those that already exist as well as the entire material of the company. The workshop was also an opportunity for experts to visit the entire company and see were fire extinguishers can be placed.
