Sanitation Challenges in Edea Markets

In order to ensure the effective implementation of hygiene and sanitation rules in his area of command, the Senior Divisional Office for Sanaga Maritime, Jean Abate Edii, visited one of the division's popular markets known as "Marché du Bord" in Edea on Saturday August 31, 2013.

In the market, the SDO and his close aides toured the different sectors where traders were actively carrying out their daily activities. Addressing the sellers, Jean Abate Edii explained that his presence there was not by chance. Given that "Marché du bord" is the biggest food market in Edea, he said the need for care in the handling and preservation of foodstuff is essential in ensuring the health of the population.

The market sellers were called upon to adopt cleanliness as a way of life since customers cannot buy in a dirty market. He reminded them of their indispensable role in accompanying the Edea City Council to create a healthy and safe market in the locality.

In an exchange with the population, some market sellers expressed grievances such as the lack of permanent structures in the market, the muddy environment and difficulties in selling in the open air, amongst others; to which the SDO promised lasting solutions in the near future.
