The summer holidays will run from June 5 to September 8, 2015.
The Third Term of the 2014/2015 academic year ends today, June 5, 2015 in the country. After nine months of intense studies, schools and colleges nationwide will break for the summer holidays. However, pupils and students involved in certificate examinations are still to end the year.
The closing will mark the end of lessons for the Third Term and the end of the academic year. In Yaounde, school children could be seen clad in their school uniforms going to school early yesterday June 4, 2015.
Christelle B. a Class Three pupil said classes were still going on and she did not know when she will go on holidays. At the Government Bilingual Primary School, Bastos Group One, the atmosphere was calm. Teachers and pupils were busy making the final preparations for closing the term. The Headmistress, Mrs. Esther Achu J., told Cameroon Tribune that the school will be going on long vacation today.
She said the syllabuses were covered on time because the school year started early. All the report cards have been filled and signed and are ready to be given out to the children today, she assured.
Meanwhile, Class Six pupils are busy with revision classes ahead of the First School Leaving Certificate Examination. The story is similar at Amity International College Primary Section in Bastos. The Director, Umit Soydan, said the school will close today and only pupils preparing for the FSLC examination will remain behind.
At the English High School, Obili, the students had gone on vacation since May 29, 2015. The Principal, Prince Eyong Tarh, explained that the students went on vacation early because the school is a GCE examination centre.
Four schools are writing the GCE Ordinary Levels in the school premises. For most of the government schools, the students went on vacation last week only to come back and collect their report cards next week. At the Government Bilingual Practicing High School, Yaounde, students will only collect their report cards on June 22, 2015.
