Simon Nkwenti is no More

The clocks stroke 10 am on Tuesday August 21, 2012 when Simon Nkwenti, the Executive General Secretary of the Cameroon Teacher's Trade Union (CATTU) and Coordinator of North West Civil society organisations died at the Bamenda Regional Hospital. He gave up the ghost barely a few days after leaving the reanimation unit of the hospital where he spent two weeks suffering severe ill health problems.

The news of his death was quick to make the rounds in Bamenda where was as a front line activist for the advancement of education. The Regional Delegate of Secondary Education, Sunjo George says Simon Nkwenti was not only a teacher but also an indefatigable activist who contributed to the welfare of the nation's teachers and his loss will be felt by the education family.

CATTU's communication Officer, Wilfred Tassang says; "Simon Nkwenti was unstoppable in his quest for a better standing for teachers and that he had the blessing and gift of negotiating for social dialogue. CATTU has been in a state of hysteria since the shocking news of his death." The education family is at a loss without Simon Nkwenti who is now remembered for his crucial link in civil society education and action. He is saluted by all for his brave and tactful approach in tabling the problems of teachers for solutions.
