Statue of Ruben Um Nyobe unveiled in Douala

The Association Amish Arts unveiled statue of Ruben UM Nyobe on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the death of the great Cameroonian nationalist.

It has a weight of 170 kg and a size of 2 m 10. It was mounted with a black and white photo. It portrays Ruben Um Nyobe, the hero of the struggle for the independence of Cameroon, wearing a shirt and a loincloth.

In his left hand, he has a peace tree and in the right hand, Spears. "This is the symbol of hunting weapons. They are to fight those who want to jeopadize their peace,"says Amidou Nsangou, the man who built the monument which has just been mentioned as one of the members of the Association Amish Arts.

The members of this association celebrate in their own way the 56th anniversary of the death of the most illustrious of the Cameroonian nationalist who fell under the bullets of the French colonial forces September 13, 1958 near his native village Boumnyebel.

The monument was built for nearly ten months. Everything now depends on the urban community of Douala. The monument dedicated to Ruben Um Nyobè arrives at a time when politicians and Patriots require the erection of such structures in the memory of the national hero such as Rudolph Douala Manga Bell, Martin Paul Samba, Ernest Ouandié and Ruben Um Nyobè.
